The dance group, Ballet Magnificat! Omega, came to Thomasville Friday, September 11th thanks to the Thomasville Christian School. The dance group contains talent from all over the world; ranging from Tallahassee to Canada, from Alabama to Germany to Poland. Ballet Magnificat! Omega danced out the true story of how Corrie and Betsie Ten Boom built a hiding place; with the help of the neighboring Jews, during World War 2.
The beginning of the performance showed Fraulein “the Snake” dancing out her wishing to have a greater purpose in her life. Soon after she expresses her hopes of being something more, a package arrives for her. When she opens the box, she opens the door to destruction; following everywhere she went as the package contained her promotion in the German army; her call to serve the Empire asking all to unite against Europe and the Jewish race.
The scene soon changes to Corrie, lifting her prayers to God to protect her and her family. Her prayers are interrupted as her sister Betsie runs in with the news of the crimes she just saw the Gestapo (secret Nazi police) commit. Corrie then gets the brilliant idea to create a hiding place within her home. She encourages others to help construct a place of protection. Act one ends with the securely hidden citizens praising God for providing for them.
Act two begins with the Nazis finding the hide-a-ways behind the altered wall. In anger, they order all the Jews to be taken to Ravensbrück Concentration and Labor Camp. Although in the midst of one of the most horrid moments in the worlds history, Corrie and Betsie share their faith with anyone who will listen, including Fraulein. They proclaim all that the Father has done for them. Betsie is taken into interrogation, tortured, and killed. They had a scene of her dancing in Heaven, basking in the presence of God. After dealing with the difficulty of losing her sister, Corrie stays strong in her faith and becomes an internationally recognized advocate of forgiveness and peace after the wars end. While speaking at a conference, Corrie comes face to face with the very person who was responsible for her sisters death, Fraulein. Instead of running away or telling Fraulein how awful she is, Corrie stretches out her arms and embraces her former enemy. After seeing this act of love and forgiveness, Fraulein accepts Jesus into her heart and surrenders all that she is for the one who surrendered all for her. The dance ended in an alter call offering prayer to anyone who needed to forgive or accept Christ.
Not an eye was dry as people from all across the county left the Thomasville Municipal Auditorium that night. Ballet Magnificat! Omega did a fantastic job in the presentation of this historical story of “hope in the midst of suffering.”
